Mir
Spacecraft:  DOS 7 / Long-duration Orbital Station 7 / 17KS No 127-1
Numbers: 1986 payload #31 ; 1986-017A ; 3854th spacecraft.
Type: Orbital space station
Sponsor: Soviet Union (Korolev's Design Bureau)
Launch: 20 February 1986 at 21h28 UTC, from Baykonur Cosmodrome's LC-200/39, by a D-1/Proton-K (8K82K 337-01).
Orbit:
Deorbit: 23 March 2001 at about 05h50 UTC in the Pacific (the impact zone is around 160° West and 40° South.
Mission: Mir was the 10th (and last) Soviet space station launched (not counting ISS space station modules). In its 15 years of its existenc, it was visited by 111 spacecrafts.  Mir had hosted 28 long-duration crews; cosmonauts occupied it for 4,591 days (12½ years) and made 79 spacewalks from it. It was visited by 104 different people from 12 different nations which made it the most visited spacecraft in history. The Mir program held the record for the longest uninterrupted human presence in space (3,644 days) -- 11 days short of a decade. The duration record of 437 days for a single flight was set by Valeriy Polyakov onboard Mir in 1994-1995.
Mir was deorbited after a total of ~75,970 Earth orbits. On 23 March 2001 at 00h33 UTC, Progress M1-5 carried out the first small DPO burn to lower Mir's orbit from 212 km x 218 km to 190 km x 219 km.  A second small burn began at 02h01 UTC and put Mir in a 150 km x 215 km orbit. The main deorbit burn began at 05h07 UTC, lowering perigee to less than 80 km. At 05h50 UTC observers in Fiji reported seeing multiple bright reentry bodies passing overhead, confirming that the station had broken up by that time.
